Fonterra’s expansion in Wynyard will be supported by new sewage infrastructure upgrades on TasWater’s systems.

The works include upgrades to the Fonterra Sewage Pump Station as well as new sewage rising main servicing the Fonterra plant.

TasWater has begun construction on five kilometres of new rising sewer main from the Fonterra facility directly to the Wynyard Sewage Treatment Plant with upgrades to the Fonterra sewage pump station soon to follow.

Once the new infrastructure is in place, the wastewater from Fonterra will no-longer enter the sewer reticulation system in the township, reducing the potential for odours from the existing sewerage route.

Trade waste is typically more variable and diverse in volume and quality than typical household wastewater. The composition of wastewater from trade can be a contributor to odour from the sewage infrastructure.

The works will also support Fonterra in their recently announced $9.7 million expansion to operations at the Wynyard facility.

The pipeline route is generally along the southern boundary of the Wynyard Airport operational land as well as road reserve and undeveloped private property.
